I have always been very selective about where my pups go to for years, but this past few months has been particularly dificult as I have been absolutely inundated with enquiries, and I worry that the majority of those enquiring were just wanting a pup to keep them occupied through the lockdown, I would not entertain that at all, all of my pups have remained here with me until the lockdown eases, so I know that my new puppy owners are 100% genuine as they are happy to wait, and would have been looking for a pup this year before we even heard of the virus. I have been absolutely run off my feet, not because I have bred more pups, far from it, but purely because I have kept all of my pups since they were born in January, so my first litter of pups to leave me last weekend where actually 5 months of age. I refused to take advantage of the lockdown. I worry that once the lockdown is over and people go back to work, there will be thousands of dogs around the country who will be dumped, it is so sad, the comfort I have is that none of them will be mine, but it still worries me for those poor little mites whose "breeders" didn't care where they were going to, and probably massively inflated the prices to cash in on demand. It is those selfish, greedy idiots that give all breeders a bad name. I actually feel like the breeding of dogs has taken a massive step back in time this past few months, things were starting to tighten up with rules and regs, now it is all to pot again.  

If you wish to contact me with regards the purchase of one of my pups/adult dogs, or wish to be added to my waiting list for a future pup, PLEASE provide me with some information about yourself and the home life that you are offering to one of my pups/adults (see notes below), and also what preferences you might have in terms of breed/gender/colour etc.

When I ask if you could provide me with some information about yourself and the homelife that you are offering to one of my pups, below is the kind of information that I am looking for, I don't need a huge essay, by any means, not all of the points below may be relevant to you, and many of the pointers are just things for you think about before purchasing a pup, but if you would have a read through the points, and feel that you are able to offer one of my pups the best home possible, then I look forward to hearing from you .....

• Most Importantly:-
  Is there somebody at home through the day for a pup (and when the pup grows into an adult dog)?
  If not, what amount of time would/would not a pup have somebody at home through the day with them?. I am not able to sell a pup to owners who work full time, even if you plan a lunchtime visit. I am happy if two people share opposite shift patterns (for example), or if you work part time, or if you have close family/neighbours willing to share the day time care for the dog, or even if you are planning to use the facilities of a doggy day care, but if a pup/adult dog is going to be spending more than 3 hours per day, in any one day, on a regular daily basis, home alone, I am afraid that I am not able to help you. 

• Are there young children living in your home?, If so, how many and what are their ages?

• Does anybody in your home suffer with allergies?

• Do you have any other dogs/pets?, if so, how many, what are they, what are their ages and temperaments?

• Have you ever raised a puppy previously? (don't worry if you havn't, I am just trying to determine what/if you have any experience of a puppy so that I can get an idea of how much advice/information you may need.

• I look to find the most suitable PET HOMES for my pups and recommend that the pup be neutered within the first year. Are you looking to purchase a puppy purely as a companion/family pet, or, do you wish to breed from the pup when s/he is older (even if the plan is just for one litter). Please be honest with me on this! If you do not mention to me before purchase that you wish to breed, you may not be purchasing the most suitable pup.

• What are your views on Spaying/Castration (Neutering)?...

• Have you considered all of the costs that are required in order to raise and maintain a dog? Your dog is going to be with you for the best part of 10-15 years all being well, so you will have constant Annual Vaccinations, Vet Checks, worming and flea protection treatments, monthly pet insurance, regular trips to the groomer. Schnauzers/poodles and biewers should take a trip to your groomer at least once every 4-6 weeks throughout their life, have you checked out what this will cost? can you afford this regular cost?, feeding costs, and then what about unexpected costs? (injury, illness etc..) it all adds up.  Have you factored all these costs into your monthly/annual finances?

• Are you pregnant or planning to have a baby? If so, have you considered how you will manage a baby and a dog/pup? So many times you see people trying to rehome their dog because a baby is on the way. A dog is not a throw-away commodity, they are not a "stand-in" for a baby until the real thing comes along that you can then "get rid" of when it suits, they are a part of the family, for life. You wouldn't rehome a child if you have an unexpected baby on the way, so you should factor in these possible changes to your family life. Ensure that you socialise your pup well at the beginning, have him/her socialise with babies and young children, that way, if a baby does come along, your dog should be happy to accept the new addition. 

• Pet Insurance. Accidents, illness, loss, theft etc. It all adds up if something unexpected happens. We all hope we will never need to use it, but for peace of mind, all pet owners should consider taking out insurance to cover their pets. All policies are different in some way, as a breeder I am happy to discuss this with you to ensure that you choose the most suitable insurance for your pup/dog. As a breeder, I do provide all new owners with an initial 1 month free pet insurance, and you are advised to continue with this beyond the month.

• Do you have a secure garden?

• Do you enjoy walks in the park/on the beach etc?

• What would be your plans for the pup/adult dog for times when you wish to go away on a break/holiday etc?

• Do you live in a rented property?, if so, does your tenancy allow you to keep dogs? If you need to obtain permission from your landlord to keep a pet, have you already obtained this?

• What kind of age bracket are you? If you are under 25, please provide your age, and/or if you live with your parent/s, are they aware that you are looking to purchase a puppy, and are they happy with the prospect of a pup living in their home? are your parents willing to help with the responsibilities of looking after a pup? is at least one of your parents (if you do live at home with your parents) willing to contact me, or happy to travel with you when you come to view a puppy/litter?

• Are you looking to purchase a puppy at the time you write to me, or are you looking to be added to my waiting list for a future pup?

• do you have a preference to the gender/colour/markings/coat of your new pup?

• Prior to contacting me, have you already discussed your desire to purchase a pup with your spouse/partner?

• Do you suffer with any illness/disability that might be an issue with owning a pup ? (for example, puppies like to chase around, get under your feet, they are fast, they have toilet accidents,  they like to get themselves into potential danger which needs a quick reaction) do you have the agility/mobility/quick response etc... to react?

• Do you have a relative/friend that you take care of, where if their condition worsened, your time that you hope to spend with your pup/dog would suddenly become restricted? I appreciate that nobody knows what is around the corner, but if there is a chance that your life will change drastically if the person you cared for suddenly took a turn for the worse, would you also be able to manage a pup at the same time?  Obviously I will not turn a potential new owner down for one of my pups if they are a carer, I am just offering food for thought, and asking you to seriously consider the consequences if something should change, as this has recently happened to a lady who purchased a pup from me. 5 weeks after she collected the pup, her mother , who has had Alzheimer's for the previous ten years, suddenly worsened and the pup had to be re-homed as a result as she suddenly discovered that she could not give the pup the same attention that was required. I will take pups back obviously, that is never an issue, however, once a pup has been exposed to public ground where other dogs have been, regardless of being fully vaccinated they may be unwittingly carrying virus/bacteria/infection that would come back to my house on the pup and possibly infect my own pups/dogs/pregnant mums/seniors etc. with devastating consequences, so I must quarantine any returned pups/dogs  away from my own for a period of 10-14 days before I can introduce them back fully into the fold, This does cost money and has to be recovered from the refund of the returned puppy, so please please do consider seriously any possible unexpected changes that may affect your puppy/dog ownership.

• Pups can cry/howl/bark/whine when they don't have your attention, they can cry during the first few nights until they settle in and bond with you, they can piddle on your best carpet, leave a little present of poo on your favorite rug, nibble on your table legs, scratch at your wallpaper, pee in your slippers, chew your best shoes. A lady once rang me up to complain that her pup had piddled on her Jimmy Choo shoes and they were ruined, seriously? How would you feel if this happened to your favorite shoes? Personally I would not have left them out lying for the pup to get near them LOL! But puppies can be a real test of character and patience, have you considered how a few nights of no sleep might affect you? would you be worried about a crying puppy upsetting your neighbours? do you have a short fuse? are you obsessively house proud?  Are you up for the challenge? Please do consider all eventualities before taking the plunge, Puppies are for life,  they can live well into their teens, they should never be purchased on a whim, they should never be purchased as a surprise gift etc..
